SUBJECT: 2008 MALIBU PURCHASE

 

On April 23rd I purchased a new 2008 Chevrolet Malibu from Island Chevrolet Cadillac, my local Charlottetown Chevrolet Dealership. Although I have owned a couple of GM sedans over the last dozen years, I had not driven onto a GM lot in many years...as the GM offerings weren't too to my liking. That is until recently when my long-in-the-tooth Pontiac Bonneville needed to be replaced. Through my selection process, namely word of mouth, reading online, and daily observations, I had narrowed my new car choice down to two vehicles, the Honda Accord and the Toyota Camry.

 

However, I happened to be driving by my local Chevrolet Dealer, and noticed a vehicle on the lot that looked like the one I had vaguely recognized from a Super Bowl commercial...the car you can't ignore. I figured it couldn't hurt to take a look but was prepared to be underwhelmed with the fit and finish of the car. What I saw was a revelation...I simply couldn't believe that this was a Chevrolet!!! I walked around the car checking out its flowing lines and brilliant interior...then I figured this must be a $40,000 vehicle? I checked the sticker, then checked it again as I felt there might have been an error. What I was looking at was what I believe is referred to as the Antique Bronze LS Malibu with beautiful two tone interior. I checked out the list of included options and EVEYRTHING I was looking for was included. I then did what every male car shopper does...I went home to get my wife and kids so they could look at it.

 

My wife and kids were equally impressed and we all agreed that the vehicle looked wonderful and more attractive in fit and finish than either the Camry or Accord. It was a Sunday afternoon, so a test drive wasn't possible.

 

That night, I went home and did some research online about the NORTH AMERICAN CAR OF THE YEAR. Every single article I found was singing the praise of the new Malibu. That GM had finally built the car that everyone was waiting for them to build. I searched and read for hours...and everything I found agreed, the Malibu was top of the class and represented great value.

 

The next morning, I made a call to the Sales Manager at Island Chevrolet Cadillac and asked if I could take a test drive later that afternoon. Roger Cormier the Sales Manager was waiting for me when my brother and I arrived...and grinned at my excitement for the vehicle. My brother who had purchased 3 import luxury vehicles in the last 2 years couldn't believe that we were looking at a Chevrolet. Off we went for a test drive and neither of us could believe the car we were driving was matched to the price on the window sticker. The fit and finish in the car was way beyond anything we had ever seen in a domestic vehicle...particularly one priced at this price point. The 4 cylinder engine was well matched to the car, and was a hoot to drive. This was no boring family hauler, this was a beautiful car that just made you feel good driving it.

 

I would like to personally thank the Staff at Island Chevrolet Cadillac for making my purchase an easy and very enjoyable affair. Kevin Compton, my sales consultant, was easy to deal with, enthusiastic and didn't provide any of that dreaded pressure that sometimes accompanies the new car quest. Trent Pickering, the Business Manager, was very easy to deal with and did his part very quickly and professionally, always making me feel like my business was important. And of course to Roger Cormier, the Sales Manager, who was late getting home to a watch a Montreal Canadians playoff game so my wife and I could pick up the car for a late evening test drive with our two children.

 

Thank you CHEVROLET for finally building a car that many of us have been waiting for. On a daily basis, I have friends, family, neighbors and even complete strangers stopping me to admire my car. Just yesterday a trip to the local hardware store ended up with a 10 minute discussion about the new Malibu by a complete stranger that whistled and remarked that his next car purchase was going to be a Malibu...he couldn't believe that car I just got out of was a Chevrolet, and when I listed off the long list of included options, he remarked how clean the lines were and the interior was gorgeous. My wife says she feels very safe knowing that the car has 6 air bags, and OnStar. (I have mentioned the 4 wheel disc breaks, ABS, and traction control, but she remembers the 6 air bags and the OnStar). Most mornings we have an ongoing debate about who drives the new Malibu that day, and who gets the "old" car.

We have driven products from Sweden, Germany, Canada, and the U.S. We have never seriously considered Asian product despite their widely touted(?) quality.

But the key factors in our decision has been, and continues to be, the exceptional consideration and attention to detail we receive within what we consider to be our Family at Island Chevrolet Cadillac. We well know that we are not your biggest or best customer, but when your people are dealing with us, we are made to feel that we are their only customer!
